If you blend Fela’s Afrobeats vibe with Burna Boy’s deep vocals and range, you’ll end up with something akin to Monaky’s sound.
This Afrobeats artist who gained some popularity after releasing his debut song ‘The Goat’ in 2021 has released his debut album titled ‘Patient Zero’, and Monaky is definitely making a statement with this fine body of work.

Patient Zero is an 11-track project, and Monaky features just three artists (PaBrymo, PsychoYP, and Layzee Ella) on the album.
From the first track, ‘Siren’, Monaky reintroduces his fans to his unique style of Afrobeats, which he had established with his earlier singles ‘The Suitor’, and ‘Green Speech’. From there, the album smoothly transitions into a gentle but nice groove with ‘House Party’ (a track that sounds like something you’ll want to vibe to after a few sips of something nice at an actual house party).
From track 2 till the very last track titled ‘100%’, Monaky maintains the easy but satisfying vibe he is known for, and this body of work should make a fine addition to the playlists of people who like slow and steady grooves rather than the fast-paced and energetic Afrobeats songs we hear these days.
In conclusion, I believe Monaky and his Afrobeats style are here to stay. Of course, there would always be comparisons between his sound and that of certain mainstream artists, but I think he distinguishes himself with his lyrics, and there’s also something special about his vocals.
