itsENJ a Nigerian-American AfroPop and Alté duo, comprising of Chimdi & OTITO aka “The DAPPA DUO.” The two brothers are singers-songwriters, and producers, raised between Enugu and New York City where they developed their craft and coined their sound to become quintessential voices in the new global sounds of Afrofusion.
After a successful 2022 where the Duo achieved over 1million streams on Spotify with Doctor, they are kicking off the year 2023 with another smashing single titled Closa set to be released on 20th January 2023.
We took a deeper dive to understanding the meaning of the Name itsENJ and the essence of The Duos Music and the cultures that influenced their sound .
The name itsENJ (its Enjoyment) is simply the reason why we make the kind of music we do, for enjoyment, and as the DAPPA duo we love to dress and also believe that music and fashion go really well together. “We want to make people dance, smile, love, feel, think…etc. The several layers and colors in our fashion represent the same layers and colors in our music”.
One of the key elements that is eminent in our music are the feel good frequencies and vibrations from our tropical beats. We are heavily influenced by African gospel as well because that’s all we listened to growing up. You can hear that in our melodies and drum percussion. Our music is a blend of AfroPop and Dancehall with a hint of R&B soul. It’s supposed to make you feel like you’re high on a rocket ship on your way to a gorgeous island somewhere.
The Music Duo is definitely one to look out for in 2023.
