Akinlade Abdulsalam Omobayo, stage name “Ak Bayo”, is a UK based Nigerian singer, songwriter, and poet from Ogun state and he is our artist spotlight for the month of june, 2023.
Ak Bayo started off as a poet, his poems eventually turned into rap, and his rap evolved into his music, which kicked off in 2013. After an on-and-off spell of music releases, he reconnected with poetry in 2019, which better defined his style and sound. His music became about expression and telling stories that could be felt and connected to, while soaking pure groovy vibes.
Deriving his unique style from poetry, the songwriter is big on lyricism and connectivity in his music. With this, his versatility and distinctive cadence that stands out to draw listeners in, he delves predominantly into Afro-soul, AfroRnB, and Afrobeats genres, but is not limited to them.
After successful release of his sophomore EP “After a Full Moon” he sets to release new single “All Day”, Here Ak Bayo self-reflects while featuring a similarly named artist and producer, “Bayoo,” on a confluence of soulful afro sounds while continuously exploring connectivity in his poetry-influenced sound.
“All Day” seeks to double this connection as two similar yet different artists on a quest to navigate life evoke introspection with lyrics as we mirror each other.
